The STEM Project The STEM Project is a three year project which was established in 2004 and will conclude in June 2008. The project is funded by the EU INTERREG IIIA Programme for Ireland/Northern Ireland, nine participating Councils and Southern Group Environmental Health Committee. A business or organisation will have an impact on our environment regardless of its size. This impact can be controlled and managed by implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS). The STEM Project has three key objectives:- Who can register? If you are an SME operating in any of the nine participating councils, then you can register. An SME is defined by the EU as an independent company or a company that is part of an independent group of companies employing less then 250 people with turnover less than £24 million/€36 million per annum. The STEM Project will guide 270 SMEs through the EMS process over three years. Only 30 SMEs from each council area may participate on the project.
