 Stages  Stages

The STEM Project will guide 270 SME’s through the often expensive and daunting process of implementing an Environmental Management System.   Using the phased approach set out in BS 8555, businesses will be guided through phase 1, 2 and 3. After successful completion of Phase 3 businesses will be certified as having an established EMS by the accreditation body NQA.

How will the STEM Team Support the SME’s?

Dedicate an EMS Officer to your organisation
Upon acceptance of your organisation onto the STEM Project we will appoint an EMS Officer to your business.  The officer will be available to assist throughout the EMS implementation.

Advice and support
An excellent network of advice and support has been developed to assist the organisation through their EMS development. The organisation will find comfort and reassurance in knowing they are one of 270 businesses and 10 local authority bodies moving through the process.

Series of workshops
Each phase of the standard will be supported by a workshop ensuring the EMS Leader has a full understanding of what is required from them and their business to ensure conformance to the standard.

Toolkit
A toolkit has been specifically developed with the small to medium sized business needs in mind.  This will provide businesses with a self help guide to implementing their EMS – making the process as simple and pain free as possible!

Intranet
Members will have access to the intranet service in which they can share best practise with other members, network and view their progress towards EMS certification.

Conference
Members will be invited to an annual cross-border conference; this will be an information day providing them with an opportunity to hear from key industry speakers.  An award ceremony will be a key element of the day’s proceedings and acknowledgement will be given to the achievements of the Councils and Businesses.
