  What is an EMS?

Environmental issues are very much to the fore across all sectors of industry and  commerce, with new legislation being introduced both by local Government and the European Union. STEM Provides free technical advice and assistance to SMEs to help guide them through the process of implementing an Environmental Management System.

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a management tool that enables your business or organisation to assess and control the environmental impact of its activities, products and services.

An EMS can assist in pro-actively improving your environmental performance.  Its primary aim is to minimise negative environmental impacts and by identifying areas of environmental concern you can introduce measures to reduce and control their effects.  An effective EMS can deliver many benefits to your business or organisation including reducing costs and improving efficiencies, market advantages and ensuring you comply with legislation, while improving environmental performance. There is the potential to make huge savings on your running costs simply by monitoring these activities.
